Hiking: Madera Canyon, Dutch John Spring Trail

Happy caterpillars have been here.
This pretty little flower was open in the morning and by afternoon was closed, wilted, and sad looking.
We began our hike on the Nature Trail.
Then crossed over to the Bog Springs Trail.
Tall grass thanks to the rain we've had in Southern Arizona.
And then the steep part: Dutch John Spring Trail.
Snack break.
Snack break.
Squirrel.
The creek along the Nature Trail has more water in it than I've seen since my first hike in Madera Canyon in May.
Butterflies.
Butterfly.
Tiny grasshopper.
Min. elevation 4667', Max. elevation 5531', accumulative EG 1094', EG 863'.
4.4 miles.
YTD: 50.8 miles.
Random line on the map is a GPS error, I'm not sure why that happens.

Laura, what amazing photos! You certainly captured the treasures of this hike for me, and I am happy to be able to see so much that I missed. Thank you, Laura, for your kind gesture for the group. Patty

I know I've said it before but .... Damn, I miss southern Arizona. So much more to see and do in the natural world than here in the Phoenix metro area. And the distances to leave civilization behind are so much shorter. The sky islands, flowing water, and rain. Thanks for sharing the pics. Happy trails ... "All who wander are not lost." Mike(y)

Thanks Mikey. There's good hiking around Phx. Scottsdale's Sonoran Preserve is beautiful. If you visit SoAZ we'll go meander Madera Canyon's Nature Trail. Maybe spark up a grill at one of the picnic areas.
