Happy Halloweenie

Happy Halloweenie from each of us at 27255. We passed out nearly 8 pounds of Hershey's chocolate, we hope that'll keep everyone fat and happy =D

I don't name my photographs, but if I did, this might be titled "whiskers in the sunlight" or maybe "sunlit whiskers".

Cierra, watching Suki stroll back and forth.

Neko has been missing for a few days. We miss her terribly, and have tried all the usual avenues for lost pets. Since she's been gone, Suki has been much more attentive to Cierra.

Suki, stalking the bugs in the yard.

Mr. Moon in the daylight.

Halloweenie

I've never carved a pumpkin for Halloween. I was at Target where all the uniformly sized pumpkins were $4.00 each. I sent a text to My Honey asking "pumpkin?". His reply was "two".

A daily visit to the hummingbird feeder by the Cactus Wren. Which has nothing to do with pumpkin carving, moving on...

My Honey, working in his pumpkin.

And then it was my turn. I don't like putting my hands in slimy things. This was a challenge. But it was my pumpkin to carve, my slime.

Mostly clean.

My one-eyed pumpkin.

Two eyes.

The mouth didn't go as planned, but it's ok.

Random Stuff

Suki, the day after being spayed. She would curl up inside the little carrier to sleep and slowly ooze out of it as she slept.

Neko likes to rub all over Cierra.

Then she'd go explore the yard.

Cierra watching her kitty saunter away. I think she secretly loves all the attention from the kittens.

My mom and my cousin, Donald.

My cousin, Donald. He's leaving for Kuwait next week - Army Strong =)

Sleepy Suki

We had Suki spayed. She varies from stumbling like a drunk, excessively hungry, very sleepy, awake and playful, touch me, don't touch me, let me sleep, etc...she has claimed three of Cierra's "stuffies" as her own.
[Click on photos to view a larger image]

"This one is mine, I'm touching it, it's mine."

"Both of these are mine, I'm touching both of them, you can't have them, ever."

*sigh*

"Zzzz..."

A friend gave us a fancy small dog carrier and Suki has been sleeping in it. It has a nice fleece pad in the bottom, I'm sure it's comfy for my kitty.

Is It Really Fall?

The calendar says October, but the thermometer outside still says Summer with 100 degree days.

Neko relaxing with her puppy. (Neko suckles on her own belly, I suppose it's like having a thumb sucker, she only does this for a few seconds then she lays down to sleep).

Suki loves to play with Cierra's dog toys.

Suki looks like she has conquered the dog toy.

My happy girl.

Suki, enjoying the evening outside.

Neko.

This is one of my favorite photos from the evening, I like her whiskers.

Suki, grass stalking.

Suki, relaxing.

My pretty girl.

Cierra was photobombed by her kitten, Neko.

Neko, bird watching.

My pretty kitties.

I'm taking Suki in to a Spay-Neuter Clinic in the morning. Neko was spayed as a feral kitten in the TNR program when she was about four weeks old, that's why her ear is tipped.

Hiking: Spur Cross Ranch Conversation Area, Spur Cross Trail

I took NK (neighbor kid) out for a hike today. He's learning about ecosystems and the hike was part of his school work. The intention was to duplicate the 4 mile hike we did last week.
[Click on photos to view a larger image]

From the Spur Cross trail, we should have intersected with the Dragonfly trail. We accidentally missed that, and continued on the Spur Cross trail.

My Honey said I made a common mistake: to continue moving forward when at the first sign of something not being right, I should have turned around and gone back the way I came from.

NK is quite the little trooper and is a happy hiker. My thinking was flawed in that the Spur Cross trail would loop back around to where we came from. The Spur Cross trail intersected with a Maricopa County trail. My second flaw in thinking was that it might loop back to our intended destination.

We had adequate food and water to hike several miles. I parked NK in the shade for a break. I was able to communicate with My Honey via text messages to ask him to look at the online park map for me. My best option was to return the way I came, a seven mile hike. During the rest break, NK was warm and tired (understandably so), and dozing off to sleep. I didn't think it would be fair to push him to do the return hike for a round trip hike of fourteen miles (but if we had, think of the bragging rights!).

For a variety of reasons I opted to call for help. We were at a point where the trail intersected with a well traveled dirt road. I thought staying where we were would make it easiest for someone to get to us. My Honey tried to contact the park rangers for me, no luck there.

All I really wanted was a ride to back to my truck without a big fuss. The Maricopa County Sheriff helicopter was in the air, and near us, so voila - a helicopter ride back to my truck -- awesome (and humbling).

Views from the trail.

Lichen, part of NK's school studies.

Tall saguaros and the moon.

Views from the trail.

Spur Cross trail. *steeper than it looks*

Elephant Mountain and Mr. Moon.

A part of NK's school work was to look for the tarantula we saw on the trail last week and look for its habitat. Last week's tarantula was nowhere to be seen but we did find a lot of spider webs.

The (not so) elusive Dragonfly trail marker.

We continued on the Spur Cross trail.

More lichen.

Getting closer to Elephant Mountain.

A dry, crispy, dehydrated sunflower.

I thought the rocks on the right side of the trail looked like a mouse head.

Mr. Moon.

Views from the trail.

A hawk.

Neat-o rocks.

We found two feathers.

Views from the trail.

Another trail disclaimer: *steeper than it looks*

This is where the Spur Cross trail intersects with the Maricopa County trail.

The Maricopa trail, no disclaimer needed here, it really was as flat as it looks.

One of the many highlights of our hike - scream rock.

MCSO helicopter N119FT. It's a Bell OH-58C (I couldn't find the year of manufacture for this helicopter).

My first ride in a Bell. NK's first ride in a helicopter.

NK looking down on where we'd hiked.

My truck in the parking lot near the trailhead.

Good bye, thank you very much!
