What Does The Color Blue Taste Like?

When they started making food and drinks blue, like blue koolaid and blue gatorade, I remember asking my son: what does blue taste like?

Today I saw a news article about blue food dye used within the medical world, and I found this picture of a white and blue lab rat to be very sad.

The following is a small portion of the article:

The same blue food dye found in M&Ms and Gatorade could be used to reduce damage caused by spine injuries, offering a better chance of recovery, according to new research.

Rats injected with BBG not only regained their mobility but temporarily turned blue.

Researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center found that when they injected the compound Brilliant Blue G (BBG) into rats suffering spinal cord injuries, the rodents were able to walk again, albeit with a limp.

The only side effect was that the treated mice temporarily turned blue.

Oh, The Carnage...

I think he's a goner...

I'm sorry Mr. Lizard, I don't think my Shepherd really meant to kill you. I hope your life was as long and lovely as your tail.

Monsoon Clouds

I thought that this cloud looked like a super hero dog with his cape flying in the breeze.
PJ said it looked like a bear, no cape.

I thought that this one looked like a fire breathing dinosaur.
Or, maybe it's godzilla.

My faithful companion, cloud watching with me.

Do we have enough balls outside in the yard? I think not.

When It's Too Hot To Go Outside (movie)

My dog whisperer said that it's good to challenge and puzzle the dog sometimes. No problem:
video

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a...

This morning PJ and I had a conversation that went something like this:

I saw a huge bird on the hummingbird feeder

Doves, I think

No, larger like a condor

Wow

It was bigger than an eagle

Oh, a pterodactyl

It was bigger than that house over there

A brontosaurus?

The exaggeration station dropped off after that... here's a couple photographs of the giant invaders (aka: Doves)

Zzzleeepy Girl

About 1-1/2 years ago we brought Cierra in to our home as our first German Shepherd foster dog.

PJ has rescued, fostered and trained several dogs over the years.
Cierra was my first foster dog.
Did anyone actually think I'd give up my first foster girl? Ptttthhh...

The significance of this photo of her sleeping is great because a year ago, this dog wouldn't catnap, not even for a few seconds, she was sky high with anxiety 24 hours a day.

She's a testament to rescue and the goodness that can be achieved.

Now, she's at home, she knows her place, she loves her people, and she's calm.

She sleeps.

Bored

My sit-up coach was supervising me closely. When I finished, and we were both lying on the floor, I grabbed my camera for a few photos of my favorite dog (she's my only dog)...

Too dark...

Too distracted...

Too serious...

Too close...

She does have really pretty fur...

She likes her fur too...

This one might be my favorite...

Blast From The Past

This is the book I'm reading: The Last Valley by A.B. Guthrie, Jr.

I borrowed it from the library. To check out the book, I scanned the bar code at the self-checkout computer. Is there any other way?

When I opened the front cover of the book *gasp!*
What's this?!
The last time I saw one of these was about 1975 when I was in First grade...

It's stamped 1976.
Was I born yet? Just kidding. That's a standard joke around my house.

Hot Hummers

The high temperature for today was about 114 degrees. Even the hummingbirds are hot.

My Step-Monsters, All Grown Up

The kids' Grannie recently saw my step-monsters, Glenn and Alex. The little Peep in the photo is their baby sister. Thank you to Edith for sending me these photos.

Grannie and Alex. Alex has grown in to such a beautiful young woman!
I love you Glenn and Alex.

Six Uninteresting Things That Make Me Happy

A friend of mine was encouraged to write about six things that made him happy. He posted them on his website: http://www.crissum.com/, aside from the six things, my friend is also an artist, poet, and a dozen other talented things you might be interested in.

Following his example, here are my six things:

Six Uninteresting Things That Make Me Happy:
  1. My son makes me laugh and smile, it's the purest kind of joy.
  2. When my dog trots along the trail while we're hiking but always pauses to make sure I'm still behind her.
  3. Sherbet.
  4. Flying in the helicopter with the doors off.
  5. Riding on the back of the Harley with my hair flying in the wind, the sun shining on my face and my arms out so I can fly like a bird.
  6. Thoughtful surprise gifts, just for me.
